We were driving south from San Jose to San Luis Obispo and came upon Castroville, California. The people of Castroville call their town "The Artichoke Center of the World".

Just before arriving there we saw fields of artichokes. Once I noticed the unusual shape of the leaves and the artichokes themselves I asked my husband to pull over. I needed to take pictures of these "specimen". Here in Canada you see the odd artichoke in someone's garden but we had never seen fields of them.
